The Muslim Community of South Central Pennsylvania held a forum on Sunday called, “United against hates.”

The purpose of the forum was to educate people about what it means to be Muslim and to address Islamophobia. Many in attendance say they worry about extremists as much as anyone else.

“The pre-911 America is totally different from the post 9/11 America. I never once felt like somebody who wasn’t American until after 9/11. When you are pulled aside at airports, when you are interrogated, when people are viewing you with suspicion, when your wife and children are being stigmatized. It’s just sad. This is not the America our forefathers imagined,” said Dr. Yasir Qadhi a professor of Rose College in Memphis, Tennessee.

Qadhi was the guest speaker and a resident scholar of the Memphis Islamic Center.

This event comes in the wake of many recent Islamophobic acts occurring in the West.
