A total of 849 Iraqis were reported killed during the first month of 2016 alone, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) reports. 490 casualties are civilians and 359 others are security forces. The report also reveals that 1,450 Iraqis have also been injured by the on-going acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts in the country. The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), JánKubis, deplored the continuing high casualty toll, particularly a sharp increase in the number of injuries among civilians in January compared to the previous months. In December 2015, the UNAMI reported that 506 Iraqis were killed and 867 more injured.
