three million Muslims for the first time ever with more than half born outside the UK
Britain is home to more than three million Muslims for the first time ever with more than half born outside the UK, according to new figures.
The number has doubled in just over a decade as a result of soaring immigration and high birth rates.
In some parts of London, almost half the population is now Muslims, according to analysis from the Office for National Statistics.
Half of those following Islam in England and Wales were born abroad while one in four are under ten years old – indicating a high birth rate within the community.
According to these figures, Muslims now make up one in every 20 people in the country.
The Muslim population is set to rise further as a result of the unprecedented surge in refugees from Middle Eastern and North African countries trying to reach Western Europe in the past year.
