Despite the fact that there is no narration that mentioning that Ashura is a day of celebration, in Morocco, Ashura is considered as a social celebration because it’s an occasion observed by many people, children especially. Moroccan families in general, usually gather for special meals and children enjoy many exciting activities.
Moroccans associate Ashura with a mythical character they call “Baba Ashour” who is a legendary figure appearing in the songs of young women and children, who sings songs and asks for money while beating drums.
