Named Imam Ali Mosque, it is the largest place of worship for Shia Muslims in the European country, according to reports.
A large number of Muslims, including clerics and scholars, and representatives of a number of Muslim countries, were present at the ceremony, which also marked the occasion of Eid al-Ghadir. Addressing the event, a Shia cleric underlined that a mosque is not just a place of worship but also a place where compassion, coexistence, and respect for one another are taught.
The Copenhagen mosque has been constructed on a 2100 square meter plot of land.
Islam is the largest minority religion in Denmark. Some 300,000 Muslims live in the country, making up around 5 percent of the total population.
