Huge fire breaks out at ‘largest mosque in Europe

The fire, which is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault

 

A man has been taken to hospital after a huge fire broke out at “Europe’s largest mosque” in southwest London.

The fire, which is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault, started at the Baitul Futuh Mosque in London Road, Morden just after midday.

It sent plumes of smoke into the air which were so thick they could be seen more than 10 miles away.

More than 80 firefighters attended the scene and were still working to put the fire out hours later.

The London Ambulance Service said that a large number of people were evacuated and the ground and first floorswere affected by the fire.
