Armed Man Seen at Memphis Mosque Raises Security Concerns Among Muslims
——————————————-
A security incident at a mosque in Memphis, Tennessee, has prompted concern among local Muslim community leaders after a man carrying a rifle was reported at a mosque in the city’s Berclair neighborhood.
According to local media reports, Memphis police released a description of the man seen near Masjid As-Salam Mosque on Stratford Road. Reports said the man fled after being confronted by mosque security.
Action News 5 reported that Memphis Police said no threats were made by the man, but that authorities had not located him at the time of reporting.
The incident came shortly after a deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, where three people were killed in what authorities investigated as a possible hate crime. Memphis faith and community leaders later held a vigil for the San Diego victims and warned about rising anti-Muslim rhetoric and gun violence.
Muslim leaders in Memphis have called for vigilance and stronger protection of places of worship while police continue to investigate the incident.
