World wastes 19% of its food while 783 million face chronic hunger, UN report finds

The United Nations has recently reported that approximately 19% of the global food production in 2022, equivalent to 1.05 billion metric tons, was wasted, the Associate Press reported.

The report, co-authored by UNEP and WRAP, found that households contribute to 60% of the waste, while food service and retailers contribute 28% and 12% respectively.

The report highlights the urgent need for collaborative and systemic action to address this issue, especially as 783 million people face chronic hunger worldwide.
