Interpol Reports Over 2,500 Arrests in Human Trafficking Crackdown
Interpol announced on Wednesday, November 6, that its recent operation against human trafficking, named “Liberterra II,” resulted in over 2,500 arrests and the rescue of more than 3,000 potential victims, Arab News reported yesterday.
Conducted from September 29 to October 4, this operation marked the largest initiative of its kind by the global law enforcement agency.
Victims rescued included minors forced into labor in Argentina, migrants exploited in North Macedonian nightclubs, and individuals coerced into begging in Iraq and domestic servitude across the Middle East. The operation involved extensive police raids, enhanced border security, and monitoring of nearly 24,000 flights, leading to the identification of 17,793 irregular migrants.
Interpol Secretary General Jurgen Stock emphasized the ongoing threat posed by organized crime groups exploiting vulnerable individuals, underscoring the need for coordinated international efforts to combat these crimes effectively.
