4,000 Children from Afghanistan, Syria, and Morocco Request Asylum in Bulgaria: UNICEF

In a distressing report, UNICEF revealed that approximately 4,000 children from Afghanistan, Syria, and Morocco have sought refuge in Bulgaria amid ongoing conflicts in their home countries, Khaama Press reported. This influx, part of a larger group of 60,000 individuals from Ukraine, marks 2024 as one of the most disastrous years for children affected by conflict, according to the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

The report highlights that over 12,164 individuals in Bulgaria urgently require aid, with 4,000 being children, of whom 2,569 arrived unaccompanied by adults.

In Afghanistan, the situation remains critical, particularly for girls facing severe restrictions on education due to the Taliban’s policies. The report calls for immediate international action to provide support and uphold children’s rights, especially in conflict zones like Afghanistan, where millions live in precarious conditions and are in desperate need of safety, health, and educational resources.
