UNRWA urges allowing more aid to ease starvation in Gaza

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has urgently called for the entry of 500 to 600 aid trucks daily into the Gaza Strip to address severe food shortages and prevent further humanitarian disaster, Anadolu Agency reported.

Since March 2, Israel has kept crossings into Gaza closed to most food, medical, and humanitarian aid, exacerbating the crisis in the densely populated enclave. Gaza’s government reports at least 58 deaths due to starvation amid the blockade.

Despite Israeli claims of allowing aid, only about 100 trucks have entered Gaza recently, meeting less than 1% of the population’s basic needs. The ongoing Israeli military offensive, which began in October 2023, has resulted in over 53,900 Palestinian deaths, predominantly women and children.

The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its actions in Gaza.
