UN Secretary-General Warns of Stalling Progress in Women’s Rights Amid Global Conflict

UN Secretary-General has expressed serious concerns regarding the stagnation of women’s rights worldwide, indicating that the achievements made over generations are now under threat, Khaama Press revealed yesterday.

In a recent address, António Guterres highlighted the alarming situation faced by over 600 million women and girls affected by war, marking a significant increase in their vulnerability.

Guterres pointed out the urgent need for global action to ensure women’s equal participation in peace negotiations, as stipulated by a UN Security Council resolution. He underscored the critical role of women’s leadership in fostering peace, which is being increasingly jeopardized by rising violence and conflict.

The humanitarian crisis, particularly in Afghanistan, has intensified, with women facing severe restrictions on their basic rights, including education and political participation. The international community is urged to respond effectively to the escalating gender-based discrimination and urgent humanitarian needs of women in conflict zones.
