Five Eyes Alliance Warns Advanced AI Could Intensify Cyber Threats
————————-
The Five Eyes intelligence alliance has warned that advanced artificial intelligence models could significantly strengthen offensive cyber capabilities and create urgent new security risks.
In a joint statement issued by officials from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, the alliance said frontier AI models are expected to transform both offensive and defensive cyber operations, adding that the timeline for these changes is “months,” not years.
The statement urged governments and organizations to strengthen basic cybersecurity measures, including rapidly patching vulnerable software and limiting unnecessary exposure of digital systems to the internet.
Officials also encouraged defenders to use AI tools to improve cyber defense, such as identifying weaknesses more quickly and responding faster to security incidents.
The warning reflects growing concern among Western security agencies that powerful AI systems could help malicious actors carry out complex cyberattacks at greater speed and scale.
