Singapore to Train 40,000 Tech Workers in AI Skills by 2029 Under National Programme

The Singapore government has announced a major initiative to train 40,000 technology professionals in artificial intelligence (AI) skills by 2029, aiming to boost the local workforce’s ability to automate tasks such as code writing and develop intelligent systems.

The plan, unveiled by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), includes software developers, cybersecurity specialists and final‑year IT students from polytechnics and universities. Training will focus on enhancing AI fluency and keeping skills current in response to rapid advances in the field.

This effort forms part of Singapore’s broader National AI Impact Programme, which also targets building a wider pool of 100,000 AI‑savvy workers across sectors and professions by 2029 — including non‑tech roles — to support productivity and digital adoption nationwide.

Officials say the initiative is designed to help workers adapt to AI‑driven changes in the economy and equip them to participate in higher‑value work as AI tools become more prevalent in business and society.
