CSNPH report warns AI in healthcare poses patient risks

The employment of artificial intelligence in healthcare exposes patients to risks due to insufficient legal protections, the National High Council for Persons with Disabilities (CSNPH) warned in a report published Thursday, as cited by Anadolu Agency.

“The doctor-patient relationship must remain human-to-human,” the council stressed.

Although physicians currently oversee AI decisions, the CSNPH cautioned that reliance on the technology may become routine over time. The council called for centralized validation systems for medical AI and mandatory bias testing to prevent discrimination against specific patient groups.

The report also proposed an ethical charter and underlined the need for rigorous methodology, diverse training data, and transparency in AI development. Proper training of healthcare providers was flagged as crucial to ensuring the effective use of such technologies.

The council concluded that the European Union’s AI Act requires health-specific regulations to adequately address these challenges.
