AI-Based Information Searches May Weaken Human Memory and Depth of Knowledge
——————————–
A new study suggests that increasing reliance on AI-generated summaries may lead to more superficial understanding and reduced retention of information.

According to a report by Shia Waves Agency, citing ScienceAlert, the research—conducted on more than 10,000 participants—found that using large language models (LLMs) and chatbots to look up information produces significantly shallower learning compared with traditional internet searches.

Researchers observed that AI-generated responses were generally shorter, more generalized, and often less precise. In contrast, manual searches on platforms like Google yielded more detailed, analytical, and accurate results, helping users build deeper comprehension.

The findings highlight a potential decline in the quality of knowledge transfer when individuals depend too heavily on AI systems for quick answers. Scientists warn that while AI tools offer convenience, they may inadvertently weaken memory formation and long-term information retention.
