Most Britons View AI as Economic Risk, Finds Think Tank
——————————-
A new poll conducted by the Tony Blair Institute (TBI) has found that a significant number of Britons perceive artificial intelligence (AI) as more of an economic risk than an opportunity. The survey, which included over 3,700 adults, revealed that 38% see AI as an economic risk, while only 20% view it as a benefit.

According to The Guardian, this public sentiment poses a challenge to the UK’s ambition to become a global AI “superpower.” A major barrier to AI adoption, the poll found, is a lack of trust among the public. The TBI has forecasted that AI could displace between 1 to 3 million private sector jobs in the UK, highlighting a key source of public concern.

The TBI’s recommendations to address this mistrust include responsible regulation, increasing public use of AI, and launching programs to build AI skills. The goal is to build public confidence in the technology, similar to public health campaigns for vaccines.
