UK employees wary of AI despite Starmer’s push to increase uptake, survey reveals

UK workers are hesitant to adopt AI, a survey has found, despite a push from political figures like Keir Starmer to increase its use. A significant portion of workers, about a third of those polled, are not open with their employers about their use of AI tools, fearing that their professional ability will be questioned.
The research, conducted by Ipsos for The Guardian, also found that nearly half of the workers view AI as a tool for less-skilled workers. Additionally, more than half of the respondents believe that AI poses a threat to the social structure, and only 17% view it as a good substitute for human interaction. The article suggests a “trust gap” exists between the government’s push for AI adoption and the public’s reservations, a sentiment that is not helped by a lack of clear guidance from many employers.
