Study Warns AI Poses Growing Threat to Human Rights and Dignity

A new study from Charles Darwin University in Australia has warned that the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) could endanger fundamental human rights and dignity, underscoring the urgent need for global, human-centered regulation, Shia Waves Persian revealed.

According to the research, many AI models operate as “black boxes,” meaning their decision-making processes are opaque even to developers. This lack of transparency makes it difficult to identify errors, discrimination, or violations of rights such as privacy, autonomy, and protection against bias.

Researchers cautioned that AI systems, lacking empathy, reasoning, and compassion, risk reducing people to statistical data points. Decisions made solely on algorithmic logic could undermine human values and erode accountability.

The study also analyzed the policy approaches of major global powers: the United States’ market-driven model, China’s state-controlled strategy, and the European Union’s human-centered framework. While researchers viewed the EU’s approach as the most balanced, they warned that without a binding international commitment, even this model may fall short.

The Australian Journal of Human Rights reported that the research forms part of a trilogy examining AI’s impact on human dignity and rights. It concluded that preserving human dignity in the age of AI requires global regulation, full transparency, and adherence to ethical values, ensuring technology serves to improve lives rather than threaten them.
