Humanoid robots from around the world are gathering in Beijing for the inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games, scheduled to take place from August 14 to 17, MSN reported. The competition is the world’s first multi-sport event exclusively for humanoid robots, with events designed to test their athletic capabilities, coordination, and AI-driven decision-making.
The games will feature 19 events across three categories: athletic competitions, performance showcases, and scenario-based challenges. Athletic events will include track and field, gymnastics, and 5-on-5 football matches. Performance showcases will highlight robots’ synchronized motion control and collaboration through solo and group dances. The scenario-based challenges will test robots in real-world applications such as industrial sorting, hospital services, and hotel hospitality.
Teams from over 20 countries, including the United States, Brazil, Germany, and Portugal, are participating. A key feature of the competition is the use of fully autonomous robots, powered by AI and equipped with advanced visual sensors that allow them to identify objects and navigate the field without human intervention. Organizers believe that these games will not only demonstrate the rapid advancements in robotics and AI but also serve as a crucial proving ground for technologies that have real-world applications.
