OpenAI Introduces ‘Study Mode’ on ChatGPT to Encourage Responsible Academic Use
……………..
OpenAI has launched a new “study mode” for ChatGPT aimed at supporting responsible academic use of AI tools, according to euronews. The feature is designed to help students learn interactively by guiding them through concepts step by step, rather than offering instant solutions. It adapts to users’ knowledge levels and goals, encouraging deeper understanding.
OpenAI’s head of international education, Jayna Devani, emphasized that the tool is meant to promote genuine learning and discourage misuse. The launch follows concerns about rising academic dishonesty, with nearly 7,000 AI-related cheating cases reported in UK universities during the 2023–24 year.
OpenAI says one-quarter of ChatGPT usage relates to education, and the new tool was developed in collaboration with educators and experts. Although users can still bypass the feature, Devani called for broader discussions across the education sector to redefine assessment methods and establish clear AI-use guidelines.
