Hollywood Actors Call on US to Safeguard Copyrights Against AI Use

Over 420 Hollywood actors, directors, and industry professionals have signed an open letter urging the US government to uphold copyright protections against the use of artificial intelligence in creative works, Anadolu Agency reported.
Led by actress Natasha Lyonne and supported by figures like Bette Midler and Mark Ruffalo, the letter warns that relaxing copyright laws to allow AI training on creative content could threaten the economic stability of the entertainment industry.
This appeal follows recommendations from OpenAI and Google advocating for eased copyright restrictions for AI developers, claiming such use qualifies as fair use. However, Hollywood creatives express deep concern, emphasizing that the industry supports over 2.3 million US jobs and generates more than $229 billion in wages annually.
