Astronomers at the Trottier Institute for Research on Exoplanets, University of Montreal, have identified a potentially habitable planet located about 35 light-years from Earth.

Named L 98-59 f, the planet was discovered using NASA’s TESS space telescope and is part of the L 98-59 system, which now consists of five known planets orbiting a red dwarf star.

L 98-59 f lies within the star’s habitable zone and receives a level of stellar energy comparable to Earth’s, suggesting conditions may allow for liquid water.

Unlike its sibling planets, L 98-59 f was detected using the radial velocity technique, which measures tiny movements in the star caused by the planet’s gravitational pull, rather than the usual transit method.
