English-Speaking Users Rush to RedNote Amid TikTok Ban Concerns
As concerns grow over a potential U.S. ban on TikTok, the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu, also known as RedNote, has seen an influx of approximately 700,000 new English-speaking users, RFA reported yesterday.
According to the source, many of these users are identifying as “refugees” from TikTok. In response, Xiaohongshu is actively recruiting English-language content reviewers to ensure compliance with China’s censorship regulations.
The platform is seeking reviewers based in Wuhan, offering salaries between 9,000-13,000 yuan (approximately $1,227-$1,773) per month. The rapid increase in anglophone users has led to some instances of censorship, with reports of posts being deleted and accounts banned for content deemed sensitive.
Despite its focus on lifestyle content, Xiaohongshu is now navigating the challenges of managing diverse user expectations while adhering to strict government policies. The platform’s ability to balance these demands will be crucial as it adapts to its new user base.
