Grand Ayatullah Shirazi, Shia Community Hold Commemorations to Honour Martyrdom Anniversary of Imam Hassan al-Mijtaba (peace be upon him)

Commemorative events marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him), the second Imam of Muslims, have been held in various locations across Iraq, Iran, and Madagascar.
In the holy city of Qom, Iran, the office of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Husseini Shirazi hosted a mourning ceremony for the occasion. The event, held on Friday, 6 Safar al-Ahzan 1447 AH (corresponding to August 1, 2025), saw the participation of the Grand Ayatollah himself, along with prominent scholars, representatives of Grand Maraji’ Taqleed, religious seminary students, cultural figures, and numerous faithful individuals.

Meanwhile in Samarra, Iraq, a symbolic funeral procession for Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him) took place within the courtyard of Imam Hassan al-Askari (peace be upon him) Shrine. Participants engaged in mourning rituals, honoring the memory of the revered Imam.

Separately, in Iraq’s Al-Shamiyah region, a group of pilgrims undertook a walk towards the shrine of Imamzadeh Hassan, a descendant of Imam Sajjad (peace be upon him), also in observance of the martyrdom anniversary. This pilgrimage was reported by the Shia Waves Agency.

Further afield, in the city of Mahajanga, Madagascar, the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) Center, affiliated with the Marja’iyya, also held a mourning and commemoration ceremony for the martyrdom anniversary. Dozens of Shia Muslims from the city attended the event, engaging in lamentations and elegies to mourn the eldest grandson of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his pure family).
