Shirazi-affiliated centres across globe hold Husseini mourning rituals

With the arrival of Muharram 2025, cultural and religious centers affiliated with the office of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Hosseini Shirazi worldwide—from Iraq to Australia, Bahrain to Lebanon, Kuwait to the heart of Europe and America—have held grand mourning ceremonies in honor of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), raising the banner of the Ashura movement and showcasing a global manifestation of the Husayni epic.

Simultaneously, these centers hosted mourning gatherings for Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), organizing sessions of speeches, elegies, and congregational prayers to revive the eternal message of Ashura. In Baghdad, two major centers, the Anwar al-Jawadayn Institute and the Islamic Thought Center of Ahl al-Bayt, attracted large numbers of believers and devotees to hold the first ten days of Muharram ceremonies. The events began with Quran recitations, followed by sermons from clerics and mourning rituals. The main goal was to elucidate the message of Imam Hussein’s resistance against oppression, his freedom-seeking spirit, and self-sacrifice.

In Bahrain, the Matam al-Sakin became a focal point for Shiite mourners under the supervision of Hujjat al-Islam Sheikh Abdulshaheed al-Satraawi, with Hujjat al-Islam Sheikh Muhammad Ali Mahfouz delivering insightful speeches on Ashura’s dimensions. Kuwait’s Imam Kazim and Hadi Mosque saw enthusiastic participation, with Hujjat al-Islam Abdullah Mulla Hadi and eulogist Mujtaba al-Ghazali enriching the atmosphere with Husayni teachings and elegies.
In Melbourne, Australia, the Husayniyah Bayt al-Hussein hosted programs in English and Arabic for diverse devotees. Beirut’s Imam Hussein ibn Ali Husayniyah featured passionate sermons by Hujjat al-Islam Muhammad Hussein Ma’ash and elegies by Mushtaq al-Khadim. The widespread simultaneous participation of Shiites worldwide underscores Ashura’s universal message and the active role of the religious authority in promoting Husayni culture internationally.
