Pilgrims from the southern Iraqi city of Basra began their march yesterday towards the holy city of Karbala
Pilgrims from the southern Iraqi city of Basra began their march yesterday towards the holy city of Karbala coming from Ras Elbesha district in Fao county; The furthest region in Iraq.
Media sources said the pilgrims are served by Husseini caravans distributed along the roads leading the holy city, adding that security forces are also distributed to prevent any security violations.
Every year a large numbers of pilgrim’s unite in the holy city of Karbala on the day of Arbaeen.
In the past two years, the number was estimated to be more than 20 million.
Arbaeen marks the anniversary of the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and his companions in the Battle of Karbala in the year 61 after Hijra (680 AD).
