The International Organization for Defending Shia Rights, Shia Rights Watch, has released its monthly report documenting alleged violations against Shia Muslims between July 1 and August 1, 2026. The report highlights reported cases of attacks, arrests, religious restrictions, and legal actions in several countries, while noting that some cases require further verification.
The report cited a UN assessment alleging restrictions on religious practices in Afghanistan, including the closure of 33 Ismaili places of worship in Badakhshan Province and reported limitations on Shia religious ceremonies, including arrests linked to Ashura commemorations.
The organization reported several incidents targeting Shia communities in Pakistan, including alleged extremist attacks in Karachi, the killing of a young man, and the disappearance of two Hazara community members in Quetta.
The report documented a large number of alleged arrests and court rulings involving Shia citizens in Bahrain. It included claims of detentions targeting activists, religious figures, and young people, as well as prison sentences ranging from several years to life imprisonment.
The report alleged that Egyptian authorities arrested dozens of Iraqi Shia visitors following a religious mourning gathering near the shrine of Lady Zaynab (peace be upon her) in Cairo. It also reported additional arrests of Shia citizens.
The organization reported multiple cases of alleged killings, disappearances, and torture-related deaths in Syria, particularly in areas including Homs, Damascus, Hama, and coastal provinces. It also cited reports of arrests and security raids.
The report stated that a Shia citizen from Tarout Island was arrested in July following a security raid, without details being provided on the reasons for the detention.
The organization called for greater protection of religious freedoms and urged authorities to investigate reported violations and ensure accountability where abuses are confirmed.
