Shia Centers in Sydney and Melbourne Begin Muharram Mourning Programs

Shia Islamic centers in Australia have begun programs marking the start of Muharram 1448 AH, with ceremonies held in Sydney and Melbourne to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and his loyal companions.

In Sydney, Ale Yasin Mosque and Hussainiya, a center affiliated with Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, may Allah prolong his life, held a ceremony to raise the Husseini mourning flag at the start of the month of Muharram.

The flag-raising ceremony marked the beginning of the center’s special programs for the first ten days of Muharram, attended by believers and mourners. The programs aim to revive Husseini rituals and promote the culture and teachings of Ashura, while honoring the memory of the tragedy of Karbala and the sacrifices of Aba Abdillah Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and his faithful companions.

In Melbourne, Bayt al-Hussein Hussainiya, peace be upon him, another center affiliated with Grand Ayatollah Shirazi, also launched its mourning gatherings for the first ten days of Muharram.

The programs began on the first day of Muharram 1448 AH and are being held daily after Maghrib and Isha prayers. They include religious lectures by Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Mansour Battat, along with elegy recitations by Ahlulbayt reciters.

Dozens of Shia Muslims and devotees of the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, have attended the gatherings to mourn Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and his loyal companions.

The mourning programs in both Sydney and Melbourne are scheduled to continue until the end of the first ten days of Muharram.
