Council of Shia Muslim Scholars Condemns Plot Against Illinois Mosque, Calls for Unity and Protection

The Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America issued a strong statement condemning the recent thwarted plot to attack a Shia Muslim mosque in Glendale Heights, Illinois, Imam-us.org reported. The attempted attack occurred during Muharram, a sacred period when many gather to honor Imam Hussain’s (peace be upon him) stand against oppression.

In their statement, the Council highlighted growing anti-Muslim rhetoric and violence, linking these trends to biased media portrayals and Islamophobic political discourse. They stressed that such hostility threatens the safety and dignity of all communities.

Secretary-General Sayyid Muhammad Rizvi praised law enforcement for preventing the attack and urged increased protection for Muslim houses of worship, especially Shia institutions facing heightened risks. The Council called on leaders in politics, media, and religion to promote respectful dialogue and denounce hate speech.

The organization emphasized the importance of vigilance within Islamic communities and encouraged Muslims to engage with neighbors and local authorities to build bridges of understanding. The Council reaffirmed its commitment to universal safety, freedom, and social harmony, invoking Quranic guidance on cooperation and justice.
