Grand Ayatollah Shirazi Condemns Continued Destruction of Al-Baqi Graves, Calls for Reconstruction

Grand Ayatollah Syed Sadiq al-Hussaini al-Shirazi has renewed his strong condemnation of the historical destruction of the graves of the Imams of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) in Al-Baqi Cemetery, stating that the continued state of the site represents an ongoing violation against Islamic sanctities.
In a brief statement published on his official website and reported by Shia Waves Agency, His Eminence said that “the blatant transgression continues as long as Al-Baqi remains desolate and the graves of the Imams of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) are left demolished.” The Supreme Marja added that this injustice will not be resolved “except by removing its painful effects through rebuilding the sacred shrines, restoring the domes, and constructing dignified mausoleums and minarets.”
Grand Ayatullah Shirazi emphasized that remaining silent on the issue constitutes a failure to uphold truth and justice, describing the continuity of the destruction as a continued affront to religious heritage.
He called on Muslims worldwide to unite in demanding the reconstruction of Jannat Al-Baqi, describing this as a religious, moral, and historical duty. He also stressed that commemorating the anniversary of the demolition serves as a reaffirmation of loyalty to the Imams and a clear rejection of the injustice inflicted upon them and their graves.
