Grand Ayatollah Shirazi remarks on achieving true happiness, spiritual readiness for Ramadan amid celebrations of Sayyida Ruqayya’s birth anniversary

The Supreme Religious Authority, Grand Ayatullah Shirazi, has issued remarks on the significance of piety (taqwa), spiritual readiness for the holy Month of Ramadan, and issued words of congratulations commemorating the blessed birth anniversary of Sayyida Ruqayya, daughter of Imam al-Hussein (peace be upon them both).
More details in the following report:
The Supreme Shiite religious authority, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi (may Allah prolong his life), has reaffirmed that material wealth is not a true measure of happiness, stressing that genuine contentment and inner peace are achieved through piety (taqwa), a living conscience, and satisfaction with what Allah has ordained.
In a lecture delivered as part of the “Beacon of Knowledge” series on piety, His Eminence explained that money, regardless of its abundance, provides only a limited share of happiness if it is not accompanied by moral restraint. He highlighted the central role of a vigilant conscience in preserving human integrity and protecting the rights of others in social and financial dealings, noting that the absence of piety leads to anxiety, fear, and psychological unrest even among the wealthy.
Grand Ayatollah Shirazi emphasized that true richness stems from piety, as it shields a person from transgressing the rights of others and grants inner tranquility. He added that a poor but God-fearing individual may enjoy greater peace of mind than a wealthy person lacking ethical commitment. He further underlined that contentment with divine decree is the essence of happiness, stating that a person’s happiness increases in proportion to their level of satisfaction and acceptance of Allah’s will.
Addressing the psychological effects of abandoning piety, His Eminence pointed to the prevalence of mental and emotional disorders among prisoners, observing that one does not find those who truly embody piety among such cases. He concluded that the clear path to happiness and reassurance lies in piety, purity of conscience, lawful striving, and avoiding injustice toward others.
In a separate announcement, on the eve of the blessed month of Ramadan, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi is set to deliver a special address to groups of religious preachers (muballighin) at his honored residence in the holy city of Qom. According to the official website of his office, the address will be held on Saturday, 25 Sha‘ban 1447 AH, at 5:00 p.m. London time, and will include guidance and counsel for preachers and Hussaini orators regarding their sacred responsibilities in guiding the faithful and conveying the teachings of the Holy Prophet and his Pure Household (peace be upon them). The address will be broadcast live on several Shiite satellite channels, including Imam Hussein TV in six languages.
Additionally, the Office of Grand Ayatollah Shirazi extended its congratulations to the Islamic Ummah on the blessed birth anniversary of Sayyida Ruqayya bint al-Hussein (peace be upon them), commemorated on 21 Sha‘ban, emphasizing the importance of reviving occasions related to the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) as enduring sources of faith, moral awareness, patience, and sacrifice rooted in the tragedy of Karbala.
