Grand Ayatullah Shirazi remarks on requirement of women asking for husband’s permission to leave home

Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Hosseini Shirazi addressed the ruling on a woman leaving the home without her husband’s permission during his daily scholarly session held on Sunday, 22 Jumada al-Thani 1447 AH.
During the session, as in previous meetings, the senior cleric responded to questions from attendees on various jurisprudential issues. In response to a question regarding a wife leaving the house without her husband’s consent, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi stated that one of the husband’s rights over his wife is that she should leave the home with his permission.
He explained that, according to Islamic jurisprudence, it is not permissible for a woman to leave the house without her husband’s consent in cases where doing so does not involve harm, hardship, or undue difficulty.
However, he emphasized that if remaining at home would cause the woman harm, hardship, or serious difficulty, then leaving the house without the husband’s permission would not be considered problematic.
The daily scholarly sessions of Grand Ayatollah Shirazi are held regularly and focus on addressing a wide range of religious and jurisprudential matters, with the participation of scholars, students, and members of the public.
