Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Ahl al-Bayt are Those Who are Infallible and Possess Major Infallibility

The daily scholarly session of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Husseini Shirazi was held on Wednesday, the 29th of Rabi’ al-Thani, 1447 AH.

During this session, as in previous meetings, His Eminence answered questions from attendees on various jurisprudential issues.

Regarding the specific individuals who constitute the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) of the Prophet of God (peace be upon him and his pure Family), Grand Ayatollah Shirazi stated: “It has been narrated that the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his pure Family) repeatedly stated that my Ahl al-Bayt are Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali, Fatima al-Zahra, Imam Hasan, and Imam Husayn (peace be upon them all).”

His Eminence further elaborated: “Ahl al-Bayt means those who are infallible and possess major infallibility (‘Ismah Kubra’).”

He also emphasized: “The Five under the Cloak (Panj Tan Aal-e Aba) (peace be upon them all) possessed major infallibility, and for this reason, they have been introduced as the Ahl al-Bayt of the Prophet of God (peace be upon him and his pure Family).”
