Start of Fatimiyya: Mourning for Sayyida Fatima Al-Zahra and Proclaiming Her Oppression
—————————————-
The observance of Fatimiyya marks a solemn period for Shi’a Muslims, offering an opportunity to renew their covenant with the daughter of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family), Sayyida Fatima Al-Zahra (peace be upon her).

There are varying narrations concerning the exact date of her martyrdom. One narration places her passing on the 8th of Rabi’ Al-Thani, exactly 40 days after the passing of the Prophet. Other narrations state her martyrdom occurred 75 or 95 days after the Prophet’s demise. Despite these chronological differences, all accounts uniformly emphasize the endless oppression suffered by this noble lady.

During Fatimiyya, Shi’a Muslims worldwide hold mourning ceremonies, deliver religious lectures, and recite lamentations (Maddahi) to keep her memory alive. These gatherings honor her profound sacrifices and steadfast patience.

Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Husseini Shirazi, along with his offices and affiliated institutions across the globe, holds special programs during this period. These centers play a pivotal role in commemorating the days through mourning rituals and religious events, thereby promoting Fatimiyya teachings and reminding the faithful of the lofty status of Lady Fatima Al-Zahra. Honoring these sacred rites serves as a powerful means for renewing commitment to the Ahlul Bayt peace be upon them) and reflecting upon the profound lessons of the Supreme Lady of All Times (peace be upon her).
