Grand Ayatollah Al-Shirazi Extends Condolences Over Al-Kut Mall Tragedy

The office of Grand Ayatollah Sayed Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi has issued a heartfelt statement mourning the victims of the devastating fire that engulfed a shopping mall in the city of Al-Kut, resulting in the deaths of dozens of men, women, and children.
In the statement released on the 21st of Muharram 1447 AH, His Eminence’s office expressed deep sorrow over what it described as a “great affliction that has pierced hearts and brought tears, leaving deep sorrow in the souls.” The message prayed for Almighty God to shower the deceased with His infinite mercy, to join them with the martyrs of Karbala, and to grant them eternal rest in paradise alongside the Prophet Muhammad and his purified family, peace be upon them.
The office also extended condolences to Imam Al-Mahdi, may our souls be sacrificed for him, and to the grieving families and residents of Al-Kut. Special prayers were offered for the full and swift recovery of those injured in the tragedy.
The statement concluded by affirming trust in God’s wisdom during times of hardship, quoting the Quranic verse: “Who, when disaster strikes them, say, ‘Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.’” The tragic incident, which occurred at the recently opened Hyper Mall in Al-Kut, has shaken communities across Iraq and prompted national mourning and official investigations.
