The office of His Eminence, Grand Ayatollah Sayed Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, may his shadow remain, has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic incident that occurred in the city of Al-Kut, which claimed the lives of a number of men, women, and children.

In a statement issued today, the 21st of Muharram 1447 AH, the office of His Eminence stated that this “great affliction has pierced hearts and brought tears, leaving deep sorrow in the souls.” They implored Almighty God to envelop the victims with His vast mercy, to gather them with the martyrs of Karbala, and to grant them abode in vast paradises alongside the Prophet Muhammad and his pure family, peace be upon them.

The statement extended condolences to Imam Al-Mahdi, may our souls be sacrificed for him, and to the people of the afflicted city of Al-Kut, praying for the speedy and complete recovery of the wounded and injured.

The statement concluded by emphasizing reliance on Almighty God in the face of adversities, quoting His words: “Who, when disaster strikes them, say, ‘Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.’”
