Syrian media reported on Friday that 18 people were killed or injured in clashes between armed men and security forces in the countryside of Sweida province in southern Syria.

Syrian Al-Ikhbariya TV said unidentified gunmen attacked positions belonging to the Internal Security Forces near the Tal Hadid area in rural Sweida, leaving two people dead and 16 others wounded from both sides of the clashes.

The report added that the attackers used heavy machine guns during the assault. No further details have yet been released regarding the identity of the perpetrators or the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The incident comes amid continuing security tensions in Sweida province, where attacks on security checkpoints and patrols by armed groups have been reported repeatedly in recent months.

The province has been under a ceasefire agreement since July 2025, following armed clashes between Bedouin tribes and Druze groups that left hundreds dead and wounded. Efforts are continuing to maintain stability and prevent renewed violence in the area.
