SDF Blows Up Strategic Bridge in Aleppo Amid Renewed Clashes with Syrian Army

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) detonated a strategic bridge in the northern countryside of Aleppo on Tuesday, escalating tensions with the Syrian Army as clashes and mutual strikes continue in the region, Anadolu Agency reported.

The blast occurred in Am Teenah village, severing a key crossing that separates areas held by the SDF from territory under government control.

The Syrian Army had earlier declared three towns in the area—Dier Hafir, Maskana, and Babiri—“closed military zones” and warned all armed groups to withdraw east of the Euphrates River. Government forces also reported thwarting an attempt by SDF elements to rig and blow up another bridge near Rasm al-Imam and Rasm al-Karoum east of Aleppo.

Both sides have exchanged fire, with the SDF reportedly using drones to strike near Humaima village, and the Syrian Army conducting artillery shelling on SDF positions near Deir Hafir. These hostilities are part of broader clashes that have displaced tens of thousands of civilians and triggered evacuations from neighborhoods such as Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh in Aleppo.

The fighting reflects a breakdown in efforts to implement agreements aimed at integrating the SDF into Syrian state institutions and moving its fighters east of the Euphrates—terms that Damascus says have not been honored.

In addition to the bridge demolition, Syrian state media and the energy ministry have accused the SDF of attacking water infrastructure and other facilities, actions which officials say risk humanitarian and agricultural disruption in the Aleppo countryside.
