………
A Syrian rights monitoring group reported on Sunday a significant escalation in attacks by Islamic State since the beginning of 2025 in areas of northeast Syria controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 102 people have been killed during this period.
The monitor said Islamic State cells have intensified activity across rural areas, carrying out bombings, ambushes and targeted assassinations against military personnel and civilians. It added that the group has also used intimidation tactics, including threats and extortion, to reinforce its local influence and demonstrate its continued presence.
The Observatory documented 233 attacks since January, resulting in the deaths of 71 SDF members and allied fighters, 15 Islamic State militants, 15 civilians, and one individual accused of collaborating with the SDF. Deir ez-Zor was the hardest-hit province, followed by Hasakah and Raqqa, highlighting persistent security challenges despite ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
