Syrian Observatory Urges UN to Inspect Security Branches Over Torture Reports
……………..

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has called on United Nations committees to visit detention centers and security branches across Syria following reports of systematic physical and psychological torture of detainees.

The organization said it had received credible information in recent weeks indicating that growing numbers of civilians were being held in overcrowded and inhumane conditions, particularly in the Political Security Branch in Damascus and its offices in Tartus and Latakia.

The Observatory stated it could not independently verify the situation due to lack of access but warned that the reported abuses resemble the repression seen under previous regimes.

It described the alleged violations as a clear breach of international humanitarian law and human rights conventions. The group urged the UN to take urgent action to monitor detention conditions, protect prisoners from mistreatment, and hold perpetrators accountable.
