The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented the deaths of 628 civilians, including 176 children and 42 women, caused by landmines and unexploded ordnance across Syria since the fall of the former regime on December 8, 2024.

The group reported that explosive remnants continue to claim lives in areas under government control, the Autonomous Administration in the northeast, and Turkish-backed opposition territories. Another 687 civilians, among them 305 children and 22 women, were injured in similar incidents—many while collecting firewood, herding livestock, or working in farmlands.

The Observatory warned that nearly a year after major hostilities ended, the lack of effective demining programs continues to endanger civilians and hinder post-war recovery efforts across Syria.
