Syria Sees Surge in Retaliatory Killings Targeting Women and Children

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented a wave of retaliatory killings claiming the lives of at least 32 women and 21 children since the beginning of the year. The attacks, carried out by unidentified assailants, occurred across several provinces, highlighting persistent insecurity.

Homs recorded the highest number of casualties, while Damascus and its countryside, Hama, Latakia, Tartous, and Daraa also witnessed scattered incidents. Observers warn that the ongoing violence reflects deepening instability and leaves civilians, particularly women and children, increasingly vulnerable.

Rights advocates stress that accountability and stronger protection mechanisms are urgently needed. They urge both local authorities and the international community to address the escalating insecurity and safeguard the lives and dignity of affected families.
