RSF launches drone strikes on Sudan capital
——————————–
A series of paramilitary drone strikes targeted key infrastructure and military sites in and around Sudan’s army-held capital, Khartoum, early Tuesday, ending a period of relative calm, Arab News reported. Witnesses reported attacks on the Al-Jaili oil refinery, Al-Markhiyat power substation in Omdurman, and the Yarmuk weapons factory. Four drones struck the power station, causing a fire and localized blackouts, though damage was reportedly minor. An air base at Wadi Seidna was also targeted, but its air defenses intercepted the drones. Another strike hit an army building in Kafuri, injuring several troops.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who control parts of Sudan and declared their own government, claimed responsibility for the “precise and successful” strikes. The RSF has been accused of repeated drone attacks on army-controlled areas in recent months. Despite efforts to mediate between army chief Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, fighting continues with no ceasefire in sight.

The conflict, ongoing since April 2023, has devastated Khartoum and other regions, causing tens of thousands of deaths, massive displacement, and severe humanitarian crises across Sudan.
