Joint Operation Captures Two ISIS Militants in Eastern Syria

A joint operation conducted by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS has resulted in the capture of two militants in eastern Syria, Rudaw reported. The raid took place in the Hawayij Dhiban area of Deir ez-Zor and successfully targeted an active ISIS cell.

According to an announcement by the People’s Protection Units (YPG), a key component of the SDF, the captured militants were responsible for transferring and distributing weapons for the terror group. The YPG reaffirmed its commitment to continuing operations to dismantle remaining ISIS networks in the region.

Although ISIS lost its territorial control in 2019, the group continues to pose a threat, conducting sporadic attacks. The operation follows a recent incident where two SDF fighters were killed in a separate ISIS attack in Deir ez-Zor, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the area.
