The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented 31 mass graves across various Syrian cities, containing the remains of at least 2,744 victims. The graves, stretching from Damascus to Idlib, are seen as stark evidence of systematic killings and enforced disappearances, allegedly carried out under the supervision of security and military forces loyal to the former Ba’athist regime.

According to the Observatory, the mass graves were not random burial sites but markers of organized atrocities against civilians. Some were identified through testimonies of survivors and information shared by local and international human rights organizations. The organization believes additional graves remain undiscovered.

This revelation has heightened international concern over the lack of accountability in Syria. Despite ongoing reports of violations, there are no serious efforts to uncover the fate of the disappeared or to hold perpetrators of war crimes responsible. Documentation efforts by rights groups continue amid growing calls for justice.
