Violence in Syria claims hundreds of lives in May, including children
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented the killing of 428 people across Syria in May, including 295 civilians, amid ongoing violence and lawlessness despite repeated international calls for peace.
According to the report, 53 individuals—including 14 children and 6 women—were killed by random or direct gunfire. Fifteen others, including a child and two women, were reportedly killed by actors linked to military authorities. Eleven people died under unexplained circumstances.
The report also highlights the deaths of 52 people, including 20 children, due to landmines and explosive remnants of war. Additionally, 41 were killed in field executions, and 30 others—including 8 children—died in separate murder incidents.
One person died under torture in militant-run prisons, two others in military detention centers, and 74, including a woman, were shot by unidentified gunmen. The Observatory urged international actors to take serious steps to end the violence and protect civilians.
