Syria Calls on UN to Stop Israeli Incursions Amid Escalating Tensions

Syria has urgently appealed to the United Nations Security Council to halt Israel’s ongoing “attacks and incursions” into its territory, Rudaw reported. According to Syrian officials, the offenses are motivated by “false pretexts” and “baseless” allegations. Ambassador Koussay Aldahhak emphasized the need for immediate action during a Security Council meeting convened at Damascus’s request.

According to the UN, Israel occupies at least 10% of Syrian territory. Since January 2025, 44 Israeli attacks—including 37 airstrikes and six ground incursions—have destroyed 50 military sites, such as depots and command centers. Recent strikes targeted Hama’s military airport and the T4 Air Base in Homs, suspected of housing Turkish forces.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned Syrian interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa against allowing hostile forces to threaten Israeli security. Deputy UN representative Jonathan Miller stated Israel’s actions are driven by “necessity, not expansion,” referencing the 2023 October 7 Hamas attacks.

Turkey’s deputy representative Fikriye Asli Guven highlighted regional cooperation to address security concerns, particularly against the Kurdish-led SDF, which Ankara links to the PKK. France’s representative Jerome Bonnafont praised the March 10 Damascus-SDF agreement as a “positive step” toward Syrian unity and Kurdish rights.
