Children Among Over 1,000 Killed in Renewed Fighting in Syria

Over 1,000 people, including children, have been killed in recent hostilities in Syria, with 45,000 displaced, Reliefweb reported. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that at least 745 civilians, including 13 children, died in Latakia and Tartus, marking the worst violence in nearly 14 years of conflict.

Bujar Hoxha, Save the Children’s Syria Response Director, condemned the killings, highlighting the ongoing trauma faced by children. He stated that many families are now in desperate need of food, shelter, and protection due to the escalation of violence.

Save the Children is mobilizing to provide essential relief items to those fleeing the conflict and urges all parties to de-escalate the situation. Hoxha emphasized the necessity of a ceasefire to secure a future for children in Syria and called on the international community to increase humanitarian funding to address critical needs.

With nearly 16.7 million people in Syria requiring assistance, children represent about 45% of those in need. Save the Children has been active in the region since 2012, providing food, water, and support to displaced families through local partners.
