U.S. Airstrike Kills Senior Hurras al-Din Leader in Syria

The United States conducted a precision airstrike in northwest Syria on February 21, killing Wasim Tahsin Bayraqdar, a senior leader of the al-Qaeda affiliate Hurras al-Din (HaD), Rudaw reported. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the operation on Saturday, emphasizing its commitment to disrupting terrorist activities in the region.

The airstrike aims to prevent terrorists from planning and executing attacks against U.S. personnel and allies. Hurras al-Din, formed in 2018 after breaking away from Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), has been involved in ongoing territorial disputes with HTS, which previously led the Syrian rebel coalition against Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

The U.S. military has conducted multiple strikes against Hurras al-Din, viewing the group as a significant threat to regional stability and American interests.
