ISIS Families in al-Hol Camp Celebrate Regime Change, Attempt Escapes

Approximately 40,000 individuals, primarily the wives, female relatives, and children of male ISIS suspects, are currently held in the al-Hol camp in northeast Syria, VOA reported.
According to camp authorities, these families have been celebrating the recent regime change in Syria, expressing hope for the establishment of a Sunni Islamic system. The fall of the Assad regime in December 2024 has fueled optimism among the detainees, many of whom see the political shift as an opportunity for their cause.
However, camp guards have reported increased escape attempts by ISIS families since the regime’s collapse. Authorities have intensified security measures to prevent these attempts, citing concerns over potential reintegration of ISIS sympathizers into society.
The report has highlighted the ongoing tensions in al-Hol, where the detainees’ aspirations for freedom clash with the need to maintain stability in the region.
